Helen Marshall
while portraits made of mosaics of other images have become rather cliche, Helen Marshall's work takes this to a new level and again it is scale that makes this so impressive.
Visionaire 55. Surprise is made of Pop-Ups!!
Visionaire issue 55 titled Surprise, raises the bar on Fashion Pop-up books. It's a collection of hard-cover pop up images by photographers Steven Meisel, Mario Testino, Steven Klein, Sophie Calle, Andreas Gursky, Cai Guo-Qiang, Guido Mocafico, S0lve Sundsb0, Yayoi Kusama, Gareth Pugh and Alasdair McLellan. So great!
Last year Neiman Marcus created a pop-up book for their 100th anniversary that also received a lot of hype and was released during the Holiday 2007 season.
As a kid I was in love with Origami and Pop-up books. The thought of adding dimension to paper is so cool to me, hence why I am loving this trend in Fashion :)

Wall Street Journal makes Fashion Trends easy to digest
Every season I spend hours online trying to understand trends and colors from the runways. I look at color reports along with tons of other blogs/websites for a recap of whats buzzing. Everyone starts summarizing the collections by making list with words that seem to constantly repeat but I have to say that I love this chart from The Wall Street Journal on the trends - you can even mouse over the individual looks for more information- genius :)
Jim Denevan
I love the idea that the simplest shapes can be absolutely beautiful when taken out of context. In Jim Denevan's case, its the scale and the medium that makes his work (which is almost primitive) so impressive. This is proof to me that I've lost my faith in patience because if I didn't know the artist I would have to assume it is some sort of extra-terrestrial contact.

Kehinde Wiley in Soho
On Monday I posted about Kehinde Wiley's work and I stopped by the gallery in Soho today and it blew my mind. I knew the work was large but i had no idea how impressive it was in person. If you are in the city you should definitely go check out the free gallery

Its Begining to Look a Lot like Christmas
Walking out of the office today, I noticed that the trees and lights were going up and I have to say I love the holidays. It inspired me to take a walk over to the stores on 5th Ave and Bloomingdale's and check out the windows... I know I'm a little early but it made me smile
Favorite windows award goes to Bergdorf Goodman. They made me realize how much I love monochromatic maximalism... not to mention the albino peacocks.
Check out the entire gallery.

Lucas Kerr and Tyler Kenyon by Martyn Thompson
I was the Junior Art Director and type designer on this shoot for Bloomingdale's by Martyn Thompson and randomly ran into it on a few other blogs today. I know its only because of model Tyler Kenyon's recent hype for the perfect body story in L'officiel Homme's Winter issue but its cool to know that I had something to do with it. You can find this 6 page insert in the December issue of Men's Health.

Kehinde Wiley
I've been following Kehinde Wiley's work since spring. His use of pattern and reference to classical art combined with contemporary hip hop culture makes for some extremely inspiring work.
His website says he has an exhibition in the city

2008 American Music Awards
2008 AMA in 500 pictures.... its nice to be able to visually summarize the whole thing. I loved how formal most of the male artist were dressed. My favorite male look of the night was on Chris Brown :)

Pentagram's Fall Flag
New flag outside of the Pentagram office designed by Michael Gericke. Very simple and very nice
DSquared2 on Usher
Everyone knows that Usher's got style but I didn't realize that twin design duo, Dan and Dean Caten of DSquared2 are fitting him for his latest tour.
Two other reasons i am loving Dsquared2::
They used model Sean O'Pry for their Spring/Summer 08 Campaign
I love the bottle for their first men's scent He Wood.

Imporv Everywhere Welcomes back Random Strangers
Improv Everywhere did a project with An Absolute World where they headed to JFK airport together with balloons, flowers, poster boards, and markers. They took names from drivers and quickly wrote the person’s name on poster boards and welcomed them home. I would love to come home to that!

Audrey Kawasaki
Im completely hypnotized by Audrey Kawasaki's work. It has such a delicate stroke and combines the best characteristics of Modern anime art while still holding on to tradition techniques of japonism. There is so much work on her site that makes me want to know more.
Found On The Web
I'm still not sure if I am preaching or listening to this but It clicked with me.
Im not sure who the artist is, I think its Fabian Barral but I couldn't find it on his site.
UPDATE::
it is Fabian Barral!-- and now you can download it as a wallpaper :)

Meisel for Vogue Italia
Equus
With friends in town, exploring the city's theater opportunities is essential. Equus proved to be such a great show. It seamed to be written for a small intimate black box theater but the people behind this production did an amazing job. The costuming and staging were brilliant. Richard Griffiths made me think more in his two monologues than I have all week (I could elaborate on this for hours but seriously where do you draw the line between passion and insanity). The production as a whole succeeded in making every member of the audience feel like they were invading a private moment and we were :) I must say that at the moment that Daniel Radcliffe gets naked, you experience 1 maybe 2 seconds of "that's Harry Potter naked" before you fall back into the story. Kudos to him for putting on such an extreme scene wearing absolutely nothing.
As a side note, I know the poster has been around for a while but it really is genius!
